Annual Empowerment Conference

Each year, the Foundation hosts an Annual Empowerment Conference that attracts hundreds of individuals from across the state of Texas. The first Empowerment Conference was held on September 27, 2003 and attended by over 800 guests. Keynote speaker for the event was Ms. Susan L. Taylor, the Editor of Essence Magazine. Ms. Taylor inspired the audience to move forward, recognize their strengths, and take control of their personal, financial, and business lives. Attendees were also encouraged and informed by other speakers, including Dr. Jamie Terry, physician and television commentator; Ms. Carla Cargle,financial advisor and author; and Ms. Joan Higginbotham, NASA Astronaut. These phenomenal business women shared their struggles, successes, and life lessons, leaving a lasting impact on all in attendance.

2005

In 2005 the conference theme was “Stepping Into Your Greatness 2005”. The guest speaker was Les Brown, a successful entrepreneur, best selling author, and philanthropist. As a world-renowned professional speaker, he motivated the crowd with his high-energy message, which helped people shake off mediocrity and step into greatness.

Other speakers included Dr. Charles Phillips, a global lecturer, gospel preacher and empowermentspecialist, and Mr. John Garcia, successful entrepreneur and trainer. Utilizing powerful deliveries and newly emerging insights these customized presentations taught and inspired everyone in attendance to channel their lives to new levels of achievements.

Mr. Brown was resoundingly requested to return in October 2006. His powerful message empowered the crowd to focus on a higher level of personal performance.

2007

In May, 2007, the Foundation graced the city of Houston with an Evening of Empowerment with Ms. CicelyTyson. Ms. Tyson shared profound wisdom to a crowd of over 1500 attendees.

2008

The 2008 Empowerment Conference brought great motivational speakers to Houston such as GeorgeFraser. In July, 2008, TWEF hosted the International Global Leadership Summit with world renowned speaker Dr. Myles Munroe.

2009

TWEF 2009 National Cares Conference was held at the Houston Cares Headquarters. Houston based partners for Susan Taylor’s National Care Foundation which is financially sponsored by Oprah Winfrey met to learn more and expand the operation.

2010

In August, 2010 the International Financial Leadership Summit and Awards Gala featured an array of banking institutions; business, civic, political and community leaders to lead discussions on business,financial and empowerment issues. This four (4) day Summit offered financial and leadership workshops, training seminars, a leadership luncheon, a celebrity golf tournament and an international Million Dollar Roundtable. Former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, George Foreman was honored with the GlobalLeadership Award.

2011

In August, 2011 the International Financial & Leadership Summit featured celebrity leaders and elected officials from all over the world. Leadership Honorees included: Leadership expert, John Maxwell;International author and government advisor, Dr. Myles Munroe; Senator Rodney Ellis; Harvard Law Professor, Dr. Charles Ogletree; Iconic R&B Legend, Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers and many more.

This four (4) day summit offered a spectacular Million Dollar Roundtable, highly informative leadership workshops, training seminars, an elite women and money leadership luncheon, a turbo charged networking event the International Leadership Awards Dinner at the world renowned Wortham Theatre. The summit received pre and post-keynote media coverage from the following international and local media partners: The Word Network, Radio One Stations: Majic 102.1/ Praise 92.1, The Green sheet, Clear Channel Outdoor, Sister to Sister Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine. Additional pre media coverage included a live radio show “Women & Money On Wednesday” that featured 11 weeks of financial literacy dialogues,participant interviews and press releases .This weekly show was broadcasted to and listening audience of over 500,000 in the Greater Houston area. Over 2,000attendees participated in the 2011 summit.
